By Air

Bagdogra, the nearest airport to Darjeeling, has direct air connections with New Delhi, Calcutta and Guwahati. Jet Airways and Indian Airlines operate flights on these routes on alternate days.

By Train

NJP (New Jalpaiguri Station) is the nearest broad gauge station to Darjeeling. NJP has direct railway connections with Calcutta, Mumbai, Guwahati, Madras, Lucknow, and Delhi.

The famous Toy train departs for Darjeeling from NJP station every day at 9.00 am and reaches Darjeeling at approximately 6pm. However the train is often running late and may not reach Darjeeling until much later in the evening. Unless you are a die-hard fan of toy trains we would recommend traveling to Darjeeling by taxi and taking a shorter journey on the toy train such as from Darjeeling to Ghoom and back. The cost is around Rs 230 (first class) and tickets can only be purchased on the day of travel.

By Road

Shangri-la Regency is 3 hours by car from Bagdogra/NJP. It’s a spectacular journey – as the car climbs from near sea level at Bagdogra/NJP to an altitude of about 7,500 feet at Darjeeling, the stifling heat gives way to the cool mountain air. The scenery changes as the road winds its way up through the lush valleys until you emerge on to the ridge at Batasia Loop, where you will get your first views of Darjeeling town and the majestic Kanchenjunga range. Look out for the road safety signs!

Shangri-la Regency

The hotel is on Gandhi Road, a few minutes walk from Club Side motor stand. The nearest landmark is Bethany Primary School which is directly opposite the hotel. If you are traveling in a shared or reserve taxi make sure you agree the price with the driver before you set out on the journey and also make sure that they know where you want to be dropped. If you are traveling in a shared taxi ask to be dropped at the Club Side motor stand. From there you will see a café called Keventer’s on the left and the telephone exchange and Capital Hall on the right. Turn right and walk up towards the telephone exchange, at the top of this short road you will join on to Gandhi Road. Continue along Gandhi Road for a couple of minutes, Bethany School is on the right and our hotel is on the left.

When you get out of the taxi you will be surrounded by touts who will try to take you to a hotel where they get commission – so be prepared!

If you have booked a transfer through the hotel our driver will brin you right to the door of the hotel.
